As you may be aware, with the strong support of the Central People's Government, Hong Kong has successfully won the bid to host the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)'s TELECOM WORLD 2006, which is taking place on 4 - 8 December 2006. This will be the very first time since its inauguration in 1971 that an ITU WORLD event is staged outside of their base in Geneva.

To facilitate ITU's organisation of the event, a Hong Kong, China Secretariat (HKCS) has been formed within the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau (CITB). Having successfully hosted the previous TELECOM ASIA 2000 and 2002 events, the HKSAR Government is committed to making this highly significant WORLD ICT event an even more fruitful experience for all participants from around the globe.

From now on, we will be giving you updates about the event and the Business Facilitation Programme offered by the Marketing Team of the Secretariat. Moreover, the Ministry of Information Industry of the People's Republic of China has commissioned the China National Postal and Telecommunications Appliances Corporation (PTAC) to provide contractual arrangements and support services for Chinese companies participating in the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006 event.
